CBBEL was hired by the Village of Lombard to create a public space where vehicles, pedestrians and special events could safely co-exist. Working with staff and Village officials, CBBEL developed a variety of options for the space, before the decision was made to reconstruct the block into a shared-use street.
The traditional curb and gutter were removed, while the vehicle and pedestrian circulation is defined by the pavement materials and the strategic use of site furniture.
