CBBEL was retained by the Village of New Lenox to provide Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III engineering services to improve the Cedar Road and Haven Avenue intersection, an offset (“jog”) that has long contributed to congestion, crashes, and challenges for motorists and pedestrians on this key north/south route near U.S. 30 and the Metra Rock Island Line.

Traffic on Cedar Road is projected to increase by about 53% by 2050 (from 12,300 vehicles per day today to 18,800). The single-lane urban elliptical roundabout is expected to accommodate future traffic volumes while improving safety and overall intersection operations for motorists and pedestrians. The concept also creates opportunities for landscaping and supports objectives identified in the Village’s Comprehensive Plan.
