The purpose of this project was to improve traffic flow and to provide pedestrian and bicycle accommodations.  This project involved roadway improvements that are considered part of the Stearns Road Corridor (SRCP) project, which provided access across the Fox River in central Kane County.  The Fox River previously presented a physical barrier to east-west travel patterns in the immediate area to the east of Randall Road.  With the extension of Steans Road west over the Fox River a new east-west travel route was provided in the immediate region.

The additional through lane from Thornwood Avenue to the south and Gyorr Avenue to the north along Randall Road is the main scope of this project and will increase capacity and safety on Randall Road.  Pedestrian signals with push buttons, new sidewalk and multiuse paths were constructed within the project limits along the project area roadways, to help complete the pedestrian/bicycle network.
