Project Overview
Constructing a shared-use path to make it easier and safer for non-motorized traffic to access the Oakton Street corridor
Location
Morton Grove, Niles, and Skokie, IL
Construction Cost
$1.6 million
Fee
$163,800
Client
Villages of Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie
The Villages of Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie shared a vision to construct a shared-use, off-street path located on the south side of Oakton Street and on the east side of Caldwell Avenue. Due to the proximity of traffic, non-motorized transportation along Oakton was compromised, particularly in bad weather. The area needed pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, crosswalks and other improvements.
CBBEL served as the Phase I, Phase II and Phase III consultant for the project, which provides direct and indirect access by bike or foot to popular attractions, including the North Branch Trail, Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Morton Grove’s Metra train station and more. The first phase of this three-phase project was completed in October 2023.
