CBBEL worked with the Town of Dyer on the Hart Ditch 2-Stage Channel Project, which focused on channel stabilization and creating flood storage up- and down-stream of Hart Street. CBBEL provided pre-construction services, construction observation and bidding assistance, as well as Phase III construction services.
The ditch was reconfigured to provide opportunities for habitat restoration, stabilize severely eroded streambanks and new floodplain benches that reduce sediment in the area. As a result, drainage has improved, and the channel can more effectively transport sediment and other contaminants using the natural aquatic process.
Trees that were removed as part of the reconfiguration were utilized to stabilize the bank, using the roots and trunks for erosion control. In addition, benches were created from the black walnut trees that were removed and placed on the walking path along with informational signage.
