Project Overview

At more than 120 years old, the Cornell Building is one of the oldest structures in the Village of Huntley. As the Village redevelops its downtown area in line with the Downtown Revitalization Plan, it identified the Cornell property as a key redevelopment site. The historic building was a tangible symbol of Village heritage, and the decision was made that improving the building’s character would maximize previous investments in the downtown infrastructure and development.

CBBEL worked alongside the Village to protect the building’s heritage and character, while undergoing necessary municipal repairs. The extensive list included expanding the parking lot to add 137 new stalls, constructing underground stormwater detention storage, fully reconstructing the South Church & Mill Street roadways, and a total replacement of the aging and undersized watermain and storm sewer systems. Throughout the project, the team minimized disruptions to traffic, water and power, limiting the impact on residents and businesses.
