CBBEL and the City of Rolling Meadows were successful in obtaining IEPA Section 319 funding for this project. CBBEL surveyed, designed, permitted, and provided construction observation for Stage III, which included over 1,600 feet of streambank stabilization using bio-engineering techniques to reduce sediment and erosion and enhance water quality. The streambank was graded to a stable slope and planted with native deep-rooted grasses and flowers. The native plantings not only stabilize the soils but also provide a filtering buffer between the residential fertilized lawns and the creek. Boulder cobbles were placed at the toe of the bank to prevent scour.
