CBBEL designed and permitted a new 3 span entrance bridge to the Morton Arboretum’s facilities spanning over the East Branch of the DuPage River which leads into a new parking facility and pedestrian ways. The new entrance and bridge was designed to accommodate the County’s plans to improve and signalize the intersection of IL Route 53 and Park Avenue. The bridge included architectural features to beautify the structure and blend it with the existing architecture. A pedestrian path on the north side connects the bridge with a future path along IL Route 53 and proposed pedestrian paths within the Arboretum. The stormwater permit requirements included compensatory storage for fill within the floodway and floodplain.
